1Chroniques - New American Bible

Le livre des Chroniques est un complément des livres historiques. A ce titre il relit l'histoire du peuple de Dieu. Le plan reprend par ailleurs une chronologie qui va de David à Ezéchias. Le premier livre : jusqu'au règne de David (1-10), le règne de David (11-29). L'auteur n'a rien de l'historien amateur, mais il écrit pour la gloire de Dieu les péripéties de ceux qui ont construit sa maison et la desservent. Ces écrits doivent être lu en ce sens et il n'est pas convenu de les interpréter comme des pièces ayant pleine valeur historique. Tous les commentateurs ont insisté sur la joie et l'allégresse répandues à travers toute cette oeuvre. Le récit se déroule dans la joie et dans les chants aux accents des instruments de musique.
