2Maccabées - New American Bible
Le 2ème livre des Maccabées se soucie davantage du judaïsme (le mot est employé en 2M 2,21) et du Temple que de la gloire des Maccabées. C'est un livre pieux et édifiant, volontiers polémique et historiquement sûr, il fut rédigé en grec vers la fin du IIès av JC, son plan suit le premier Maccabée : avant propos (1-2), Héliodore (3-7), la révolte de Juda jusqu'à la purification du Temple (8-10) de la purification jusqu'aux intrigues du grand prêtre Alkime (10-13), défaite et mort de Nicanor (14-15), épilogue (15,37-39). Il reprend avec force certains éléments traditionnels (la fidélité de Dieu envers Israël, la loi du talion, la sainteté du Temple) et l'enrichit d'éléments nouveaux (la résurrection des corps des justes, l'intercession des vivants pour les morts, la création ex nihilo).
