Genèse - New American Bible
La Genèse est le prologue de toute la Bible. Elle contient des écrits à base de récits mythiques sur les origines du monde et de l'humanité (Gn 1-11) : création (1-3), Caïn et Abel (4), Généalogie (5), Déluge (6-9,17), fils de Noé (9,18-10), Babel (11,1-9), les ancêtres d'Abraham (9,18-11). Tous ces récits sont relus à la lumière de la seule vérité qui compte pour Israël : Yahvé a sauvé son peuple, Il lui a donné une Loi et une Terre. En forme de longue préparation à l'Exode, le livre relate l'histoire patriarcale : Abraham (Gn 12-25,18), Isaac et ses fils Esaü et Jacob (25,19 - 36,43), Joseph et ses frères (37,1-50,26). Les courants théologiques qui traversent cet ensemble font de ce livre une pierre d'attente. Les chrétiens, à la suite de Paul, découvriront le Christ comme nouvel Adam. L'Alliance avec Noé et Abraham amorce la notion d'un salut pour tous.
